May 22, 2025 6:17 pmLiving at The Colony in Bastrop means being part of a vibrant community that embraces both the future and the past. And there’s no better celebration of Bastrop’s rich heritage than Yesterfest, the beloved annual event returning to Historic Downtown Bastrop this May.
On May 24–25, 2025, you’re invited to stroll through time, enjoy live performances, and celebrate the culture and traditions that helped shape this charming Texas town. For residents of The Colony, this unique and immersive experience is only a short drive away—making it the perfect weekend outing for the whole family.
What Is Yesterfest?
The Bastrop County Historical Society hosts Yesterfest, a lively celebration of Bastrop’s history. The festival is filled with reenactments, traditional crafts, old-time music, storytelling, and family-friendly fun. It transforms downtown Bastrop into a living, breathing museum where the past comes alive in every corner.
Visitors are treated to historical demonstrations, pioneer-era games, artisan vendors, and cultural performances. It’s an educational and entertaining experience for all ages—and best of all, admission is free.
Friday Night Kick-Off: Beards, Brews & Fun
The festivities begin on Friday, May 24, with a fun and quirky local tradition: the Yesterfest Beard & Moustache Competition, hosted by 602 Brewing Company at 919 Main Street.
From 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM, competitors (ages 18 and over) will show off their facial hair flair in various categories—ranging from longest beard to most creative mustache. Participating or just cheering from the sidelines with a cold beer is a great way to kick off the weekend with laughter and camaraderie.
Enjoy live music, good food, and friendly competition—in the heart of Bastrop’s historic district.
Saturday: A Full Day of Heritage, Fun & Exploration
Saturday, May 25, is the main event—an all-day celebration that’s as enriching as it is entertaining. Historic Downtown Bastrop’s streets will buzz with activity from morning until evening.
Historical Reenactments
Interact with costumed interpreters who bring pioneer Texas to life. Watch blacksmiths at work, see how butter was churned the old-fashioned way, or learn how brooms were made in the 1800s. Every corner of the festival offers a new window into the past.
Live Music and Performances
Tap your toes to traditional folk and bluegrass tunes, or relax and enjoy performances by local musicians and storytellers. Yesterfest is known for its authentic Texas soundscape that reflects the soul of our region.
Hands-On Family Activities
This event is perfect for kids! Young festival-goers can enjoy old-fashioned games and craft projects and even try their hand at traditional trades. There’s plenty to explore, and learning has never been so fun.
Native American Cultural Showcase
Experience a respectful and enriching look at the heritage of Bastrop’s indigenous communities, including a Native American drum circle and a display of traditional regalia. It’s a powerful way to connect with the region’s deeper roots.
Shop Local Vendors
Browse booths filled with handmade crafts, vintage goods, antiques, and delicious local treats. Whether you’re looking for a rustic home décor piece or some homemade jelly to take home, Yesterfest is a treasure trove for unique finds.
