If you’re looking for a place to explore with friends and families this spring, consider a trip to Sherwood Forest Faire. This renaissance fair in McDade, Texas, opens its secluded little pocket of bites, shops, games, and shows on March 4th, then revels in place on weekends until April 23rd.

Known for hosting many activities and shows, the Sherwood Forest Faire, in its 14th year as Austin’s home fair, promises to be a time of fun and laughter! From the famed jousting contests to local entertainment, magicians, jugglers, and much more, a memorable weekend is ahead. The event includes over 150 shows daily and 170 artisans with many old favorites returning, including Sky Kings Falconry, the Washing Well Wenches, Judas & Magnolia Escape Artists, and the New Riders of the Golden Age

Sherwood Forest, like any fair, is brimming with opportunities to purchase costumes and accessories, such as hand fans and corsets, kilts, or anything more fantasy-inspired. Come dressed in a Medieval or Fae theme to soak in the atmosphere and compete in the costume contest, with judges roaming around the fair to find the winners.

And if you’re looking to try out some Texas specials, the Sherwood Forest Faire is packed with many food vendors ready to sell themed delicacies! There are at least 22 vendors selling unique foods and drinks and various bars and drink stations providing wine, beer, and even a tankard of mead. Prepare to try favorites such as turkey legs and fried appetizers. To broaden the pallet, you may also try the usuals such as the cannoli, oysters, and veggie egg rolls.

This year’s medieval festival will be at the 25-acre permanent hamlet in Bastrop County’s Lost Pines region, between McDade and Paige, 35 miles east of Austin. The theme of the festival reflects the narrative of Robin Hood. Tickets cost $26 for general admission and $13 for kids to the Sherwood Forest Faire and are on sale now at sherwoodforestfaire.com.
